Chapter 12

A hood covered Sheyna's eyes and her hands were tightly bound. Her feet had been left free so that her captors could drag her onto the helicopter without having to carry her. She went without a struggle, her mind tightly shielded.

For now.

She knew anything she did to fight the madman who held her would jeopardize Malachi. Though she'd been immobilized by the gas when the soldiers dragged Malachi away from her, Sheyna had sensed his absence with every beat of her heart.

She slumped against the leather seat; concentrating on the heavy thump, thump, thump of the blades as the pilot prepared for escape. Suddenly, the tiny craft lifted off, tilting wildly to one side in a scatter of wind and noise. Her body lurched against the seat belt holding her securely in place.

She carefully lowered her shields and reached out, wondering how many were aboard, how many she would have to kill in order to be free.

Three. There were three others aboard, all male. Two were terrified, uncertain, their minds a disturbing tangle of fear and subservience.

The third… blocked? A Sensitive mind, here, among Federation troops?

Sheyna tested the edges of the powerful shield, then withdrew before discovery.

The madman has Talent. But does he know? Or, is he latent, unaware of the power he might unleash?

Treading on safe ground, Sheyna cast her scattered thoughts about for Malachi.
